Celebrate Black History Month 2026

DeKalb County Public Library will host more than 20 programs for Black History Month. Events will take place at several library branches throughout February. The 2026 schedule includes historical presentations, exhibits, crafts, films and more.
Some of the program highlights include:
- 250 Years of African American History: Exhibition Opening and Conversation with Mike Glenn on February 2 at 7:00 p.m. at the Decatur Library. The exhibition will remain on display in the library’s Fourth Floor Gallery through February 28 on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. This program is held in conjunction with the Georgia Center for the Book and funded, in part, by the Friends of the Decatur Library.
- Unlocking History with the National Center for Civil and Human Rights (NCCHR) on February 13 at 2:00 p.m. at the Scott Candler Library. This program is funded by DeKalb Library Foundation.
- Dr. King’s Unsung Heroes and Today’s Mission on February 11 at 1:00 p.m. at the Hairston Crossing Library and February 28 at 1:00 p.m. at the Stonecrest Library.
- Pottery with Ellen Gadberry (Ages 6 – 12) on February 21 at 2:30 p.m. at the Stone Mountain-Sue Kellogg Library. Funding is provided by the Friends of the Stone Mountain-Sue Kellogg Library.
- Hattitude: African American Hat Culture on February 21 at 10:00 a.m. at the Northlake-Barbara Loar Library. Funding is provided by the Friends of the Northlake-Barbara Loar Library.
